I initially became interested in the chocolate color while working on developing chocolate and lilac otters. Since chocolate is a fairly rare color in Holland Lops I imported my first chocolates from Mindy Boday of Illinois two years ago. In the shipment I acquired a lilac doe from Keith Becki's Holland Havens lines. This doe proved to be a fantastic cross with my otter lines and so I ordered more chocolates from Keith the following year. Since Keith's chocolates stem from Debbie Russell's LSR lines, I also acquired a chocolate buck LSR Miles Davis from her at Convention in Kansas in 2003. This buck has been my herd sire to date, though his offspring are quickly reaching breeding age. I will also be purchasing two more chocolates from Debbie this year in Rhodes Island.

I had also previously contacted Meganne and Candace Vaivadas from Show Stompers in Washington State for chocolates and shipped an agouti chocolate carrier doe down from them last year. Then much to my delight, Meganne and Candace emailed me in January of 2004 and told me they were selling their entire chocolate stock to move to Europe for college. This proposal from the Vaivadas twins to take over their lines is an honor for the Rabbit Hill since I consider their lines to be one of the top chocolate lines in the world.

We will continue to work on chocolate and lilac otters, as well as solid & broken chocolates/lilacs, true lynx, chocolate agouti, chocolate/lilac steels, as well as chocolate carriers. At the Rabbit Hill we believe that great Holland Lop rabbits can be colors other than tort!!
