How it all began:

I purchased two otters from Amy Hiroshima, (who had bought them from Ardis Hartwig several months earlier), in the spring of 2000. Their names were Lov's Martinizing (black otter doe) and Lov's Marty2 (black otter buck- her son). Through four years of careful line breeding and culling I have created the "RABBIT HILL OTTER" standard as seen and sought after today.

The Holland lop otters have successfully passed two ARBA Convention showings and this November, in Rhode Island, will hopefully pass (cross your paws) their last showing before becoming a brand new recognized Holland Lop color on the show table. They will then be showable when the first DR of the new year is published-roughly the end of January.

At the RABBIT HILL, I am currently breeding black, blue. chocolate and lilac otters, in solid and broken patterns. My goal is to continue to produce competitive black, blue, chocolate, lilac and broken otters on the show table.

I very rarely breed the tort gene into my otters, and instead use orange, chestnut agouti, and self to cross breed in. This has been a challenging process due to the small number of typey colored hollands that are for sale in these varieties. I thank the breeders who have supported me in the sales of these rabbits.

At this point the majority of my otter breedings are pure otter (at least one generation, if not two or three). Also most of my otters carry the dilute and/or the chocolate gene so that a variety of colors in the otter pattern can be produced with cross breedings.

I have thoughtfully line bred my otters using stock from the following wonderful breeders:

  • David & Linda Pett-California
  • Ardis Hartwig-California
  • Allan & Becky Ormond-Utah
  • Amy Hiroshima-California
  • Keith Becki (Holland Haven)-Michigan, Debbie Russell (LSR)-Indiana, Meganne and Candace Vaivadas (Show Stompers)-Washington (to introduce the chocolate gene).

THANK YOU ALL! ;-)

RABBIT HILL OTTERS have traveled far to homes in Canada, Taiwan, Japan, Michigan, Utah, Connecticut, Illinois, Kansas, Wyoming, Northern & Southern California, and Oregon!
